Mom

My mom's birthday is next week, and if you know me, you know my mom is my best friend. I admire her so much, and she is a truly incredible lady. For her birthday, I got her everything on her list and then some, including a nice spa day that I get to enjoy with her (happy birthday to me too LOL.)

But all this leads me to one of my favorite quotes in my notebook, from the lady herself, who once said to me, "Some people reach for the stars, but you reach for the entire universe."

See, I told you she's a special lady.

Now if you want to celebrate the special moms in your life, might I suggest this awesome T-shirt. Now that's a gift she'll love.

Cute Little Soaps

I love my cute homemade stuff. And that goes for beauty and care products as well. I will admit, there was a time when I got my soap at the dollar store (I was a glutton for a bargain...and I was a college student), but I have since learned that homemade soaps are SO much better. And they don't break the bank either. My favorite place for said soap is APCAD Handmade.

There's also a lot of other awesome homemade goodies on there, so check them out!

From ACAD Handmade: "My products are all natural and handmade, I use raw ingredients without any chemicals. Majority of my products are made with coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter. My products are nourishing and moisturizing for the skin my clients enjoy them and are happy with the results that they get from using an all natural product."

Who's ready for Valentine's Day?

I cannot believe it's already almost Valentine's Day...does that really mean it's been ONE WHOLE YEAR since we were introduced to the brilliance that is the Deadpool film? YES. And it's crazy to think that, because it does not feel like that movie is that old already (although I have seen it three times).

Now, for those of you into fitness looking to get your SO something awesome, personal, and one-of-a-kind for the big day, check out this limited edition 2017 Valentine's Bae Men's shirt at a discounted price ($17.99)! Now those are some cool shirts.

Palahniuk and Power Lead

Looking through my notebook, I like to count up how many quotes I have from each author. There are a lot of quotes from my own authors at GenZ, like Dan Flore III and R.J. Rogue, some from past professors, and of course many from classic literature. But the author I quote most is none other than Chuck Palahniuk. His writing can be quite grim, but he has such a magnificent way of putting a spin on aspects of daily life that are typically taken for granted. I suppose that is why I call him my favorite non-GenZ author.

Why I Keep Notebooks

As someone who is such a big fan of the digital world, people often ask me why I keep my physical notebooks instead of just keeping it all on my computer. Well...that is best explained by Dwight. ;)

But truthfully, I just like seeing everything in my own handwriting, going back and highlighting some things, adding images to others. Plus writing helps you retain what you wrote more!

Freelancing

I started freelancing when I was in high school. I would edit books, sing, write articles, edit videos, create PowerPoints...whatever my clients needed.  And I loved it! I loved how I was able to explore all these passions that I thought I would have to give up once I graduated. And those experiences led me to my current role as a digital entrepreneur and owner of GenZ Publishing. Those who know me know I cannot speak highly enough of the value of freelancing and digital entrepreneurship.

And that is why we need places like LanceBase.

Lancebase is a freelance community social center. Dynamic forum, high-powered discussions, platform ratings, marketplace news, independent workforce chat.

Interview with Expert Entrepreneur Fortino

I had the pleasure of interviewing a fantastic entrepreneur, Fortino, founder of Maids by Trade. He is an incredible inspiration to all of you looking to go off the beaten path with your own business. See, like me, Fortino came from a family of entrepreneurs, but he still pursued his own path to become his own kind of new entrepreneur.

Me: Tell me a bit about your background.
Fortino: I come from a family of entrepreneurs. I started helping in the family business since I was very young at my mom’s grocery store. Throughout the years, I became more interested in taking more responsibilities in the business so my mom could take a break.

After being brought by my family to the US, I learned English and eventually started learning more about formal business, ethics, accounting, etc.

Me: What led you to start this business?
Fortino: Maids by Trade started by accident…literally. One day I suffered a serious back injury that required surgery. No longer able to physically do the work I loved, I had to hire people to replace me until I could recover. In a matter of weeks I noticed that my popularity increased. Even though I was no longer cleaning, the number of cleaning team grew under my management. Eventually, I became the estimator and quality control supervisor—running between estimates and supervision the team on my route to my appointments. Seeing the expressions of satisfaction among my clients has been always very rewarding and it makes me proud.

Me: How is this different from other cleaning services?
Fortino: Maids by Trade is a professional house cleaning service that provides customizable maid services; we use the exclusive Tru-Green Clean System that assures the use of green practices, which is not just to protect the environment, it also prevents cross-contamination while enforcing safety for our cleaning crews, our clients and their pets. I guess if fair to say that Maids by Trade is a company built on a spotless reputation.

Me: Does technology have a large role in your business' growth?
Fortino: In every aspect of our business operations: From the account management customized software to the highly regarded HEPA vacuums we use. While technology plays a big role, I believe it’s thanks to our teams and their dedication to their job. At the end of the day, it’s the human’s efforts and dedication that makes a difference.

Me: Have you received any awards and recognitions?
Fortino: We have received the Super Service Award from Angie’s List two times and last years we received the prestigious  Small Business of the Year Award from Portland State University’s Business Outreach Program for Business Growth and Job Creation. More importantly, Maids by Trade has remained the most reviewed cleaning service in the Pacific Northwest for twelve consecutive years; and while that’s not a formal award, that comes from our client’s directly, making it more rewarding than any trophy or award.

Fortino also owns Purple FortĂ©, a revolutionary business model…

Me: What led you to start franchising to others?
Fortino: I decided to start franchising because my team noticed an increase of calls from people wanting to learn how they could work under our reputable brand; which has been the most reviewed cleaning service in the Pacific Northwest for twelve consecutive years.
Right before making the decision, I started to remember my beginnings; I remember how hard it was not having a guide or even experience in the cleaning industry. At the time, I had no idea that I could franchise with someone else—who knew. I didn’t. A moment of realization hit me—I could “package” my business model and make it available to other people wanting a chance to get their own business going. At that moment, I knew I had to do it.

Me: What opportunities does Purple Forté offer to people in the industry?
Fortino: We work with individuals that work in the house cleaning industry in obtaining their own business. In fact, the company offers and incentive of over $20,000 USD for people with proven record of success in the industry. It is a rigorous and selective process, but it’s well worth it. Not many franchisors are willing to invest that kind of money in prospective franchisees.

Me: Have you received media exposure?
Fortino: Throughout my years leading a cleaning company, I’ve invited multiple times to TV shows and interviews discussing cleaning tips during flu season. In addition, my cleaning crews have had cameo appearances on national television a few times with national celebrities.

Me: What kind of growth have you seen with the new business model?
Fortino: So far we have exceeded our expectations on every level; not only when launching a new office, but the number of clients acquired and the revenue numbers have experienced a significant increase. What’s more important is that growth is even across the board; in new and previously established territories.

Me: Any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?
Fortino: You can do it! It’s not easy but you can do it. Find a mentor, an experienced business person that can guide you. Do it because you love it, money and success will come as a result of your own efforts.

Be sure to check out Fortino’s Businesses https://maidsbytrade.com/ and https://purpleforte.com/purple-forte/.

Interview with Cory Groshek

I had the pleasure of interviewing Cory Groshek...It's tough to describe what Cory does, because he does EVERYTHING. So I'll let this awesome interview speak for itself.

Me: Pleasure to meet you. You are doing some awesome things…really, you do it all. You’re an author/blogger, investor, musician/entertainer, consumer rights advocate, metaphysician, and founder/CEO of Manifestation Machine. How do you find time for it all?

Cory:  First, let me say that I don’t find time any more than I find “luck”—I create both, as does everyone (though they may not realize it). And the way I create time—and “luck”— is by focusing on what I want and why I want it. Three years ago, I wasn’t any of the things you just listed, and that was because I hadn’t yet decided that I wanted to be any of them. But as soon as I’d made the decision to become those things, the Universe, as it always does for those of us who, like me, have both clarity and conviction, began to bring to me the people, places, things, and circumstances I needed to, as you put it, “do it all”—and I’ve been having a blast ever since.

Me: Now some know you as Cory Crush. Can you describe your music for me? What instruments do you play?

Cory: My music is probably best described as hip-hop/rap with a little bit of rock and R&B thrown in, but you don’t have to take my word for it; you can find Cory Crush on ITunes, DatPiff.com, and Bandcamp.com. My favorite musical artists growing up were The Notorious B.I.G., Kid Rock, Eminem, Linkin Park, Brian McKnight, and Edwin McCain—quite an eclectic group, by any measure—so, knowing how very different those artists and groups are (they range from rap-rock all the way to soul/blues/folk), it should be quite easy to understand why my music sounds the way it does.

As for which instruments I play, while I am fairly skilled at using my old Roland Fantom Workstation and music production software for creating instrumentals (or what many artists simply call “beats”), I do not how to play any instruments live, and my strong suit is, and always has, been rapping, believe it or not. Why rapping? you might ask, when you consider that I grew up a white, lower-middle-class kid (not that that should matter) in the middle of Wisconsin: That’s easy—I can’t sing.

I’ve loved poetry that rhymes ever since I was a young child, and I’ve loved almost all music (especially rhythm and drums) since I was at least 11, so when I decided to start making my own music at the age of 17, making the transition into the world of hip-hop/rap was a pretty easy choice for me to make.

Me: You’re also a health expert. Tell me how you became Low Carb Cory and why it’s important to eat healthily.

Cory: I wouldn’t necessarily say that I’m a “health expert”, but I am an expert on intermittent fasting, which is a tool I have used and taught others, as Low Carb Cory, to use for both weight loss and body detoxification. I’m also very knowledgeable with regards to the benefits of “low carb” lifestyles and ketogenic dieting, eating all-natural, organic food, and homeopathic/non-pharmaceutical remedies to a number of ailments. If you’d like to find out more about intermittent fasting and how it can help you lose weight and keep it off for life, make sure to check out my Respect the Vessel YouTube channel.

As for how I became Low Carb Cory, the short version is that I never intended for this “Low Carb Cory” persona of mine to take on a life of its own as it has, and I actually started my first-ever YouTube channel in/around the year 2011 not so much for other people, but as a video weight loss diary of sorts for myself, to simply help me track my weight loss progress and hold myself accountable. Much to my surprise, however, people from all around the world were inspired by the weight loss I achieved through elimination dieting, a “low carb” lifestyle, and the use of intermittent fasting, and they wanted to know how they could achieve results like mine. And with that, I essentially became the “godfather of intermittent fasting” in what is known as the “YouTube fitness community”, and I continue, to this day, to receive emails from people all around the world, seeking my advice on health, fitness, and fasting, despite the fact that I haven’t made a new video about fasting for over a year (because, really, how many videos can you do about something like fasting? I think the 100+ I’ve already done, to date, is more than enough, and I look forward to publishing a book on the subject in the very near future).

As for why it’s important to eat healthily, I’m afraid we don’t have enough time for me to get into as much depth on that topic as I’d like to right now, but I will say this: Food is more than just fuel for our physical bodies. It affects everything from how we look to how we feel, and everything in between. If you eat garbage, you will not only look but also feel like garbage, and I don’t know about you, but I’d rather feel good than feel like garbage.

So if you want to feel good, I suggest you ditch the GMO’s (genetically modified foods), the hydrogenated oils, high-fructose corn syrup, and refined grains and start eating what God intended for you to eat: The best organic meats and/or produce you can find. While organic good can be quite pricier, it’s still (and always will be) far less expensive than the frequent trips to the doctor and Urgent Care that most Westerners make because their diet is secretly killing them.

Me: Now, what inspired your children’s book: ‘Breaking Away: Book One of the Rabylon Series’?

Cory: The fact that the public school systems don’t teach children what they really need to be taught, which is what my book actually teaches: The value of dreaming big, taking risks, trusting their gut, and choosing faith over fear in everything they do.

Our public schools today are nothing more than slave factories, designed to set our children up to be mindless drones later in life, who can do no better than “get a good job” somewhere making “decent money” (if they’re “lucky”), with the hopes that they will someday earn just enough money (after working like a dog their entire lives) to maybe not end up homeless and sleeping on a park bench by the time they’re 65. In contrast, my book is like a self-help book for children, cleverly disguised as an action-adventure/fantasy novel, designed to set them up for success.

So if you’re a parent and you are reading this, you need to do yourself a favor right now and go pick up a copy of ‘Breaking Away’ today, not just for you, but for all of the children in your life—nephews, nieces, grandchildren, etc.—that you love and care about, because there’s no better gift you could ever given to a child (or an adult, for that matter) than the gift of teaching them to think for themselves.

Me: When did you start writing?

Cory: I’ve been writing, in some way or another, since I was very young. I remember being in elementary school and writing and short stories and then graduating into drawing comic books and writing my own song lyrics between the ages of 11 and 12. Eventually I got into blogging, and then the next big challenge was, naturally, the writing of a book, with my first book being ‘Breaking Away’, which actually grew from an “early reader’s” book into the first book in a middle grade fiction series for ages 9-12 through a very interesting turn of events (which you can read more about in my blog at Manifestation Machine entitled “A Dream Become Reality (The Self Publishing Success Story of Cory Groshek)”).

Me: Perhaps my favorite thing that you do is Manifestation Machine. Care to tell me more about it and how you are helping so many people?

Cory: Manifestation Machine is a global personal growth and development brand and a worldwide community of like-minded, success-oriented individuals that will stop at nothing to achieve our dreams and create what I like to call “a life worth dying for”. The idea behind it is that “two heads are better than one, but a couple thousand—or million— are better”, when it comes to creating the lives of our dreams. You see, there is more truth to the phrase “there is power in numbers” than what most people know, and at ManifestationMachine.com, we’re putting that power to the best use we can, and helping people turn their dreams into reality every day. So really, it’s not me helping people, but them helping themselves, just by showing up and being a part of the community we’ve created.

Me: What advice would you give people looking to accomplish their dreams?

Cory: I would first tell them to take full and complete responsibility for everything they think, feel, believe, say, and do, because personal responsibility is the cornerstone of all success. This means no more “finger-pointing” or blaming other people for their problems and no more making excuses for why they aren’t who, what, or where they want to be in life. Second, I would tell them to figure out what they want and why they want it, because if they can do that, then the how of how they’re going to go about achieving it will reveal itself. As a wise carpenter from Galilee once said, “Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened unto you.”

Me: Anything else to add?

Cory: Yes! Don’t forget to like me on Facebook at facebook.com/CoryGroshek and Manifestation Machine at facebook.com/ManifestationMachine, and also follow us on Twitter @CoryGroshek and @TheEther777. I’d love to hear from you so we can build a better world together!
